Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz went to the Lakers game last night ... just not together.

The former couple was spotted sitting separately at Friday night's game -- Tom with wife Katie Holmes and Penny with her man, Javier Bardem.

They both look happy ... to be with someone else.

I love Tom and Katie. I think they are happy. Why cant everyone leave them alone. They are two very talented people who have very public live's.
