Tony Oller's all-American looks have landed him starring roles on Disney's "As the Bell Rings" and TeenNick's "Gigantic."
Now, the 20-year-old Texas native is ready for a more mature role, landing the lead in NBC's new family movie "Field of Vision," airing Saturday. In the film, Oller plays Tyler McFarlane, a high-school quarterback who tackles bullying.
TooFab chatted with the up-and-coming actor about the role and his personal life. He admitted he isn't that great at football and revealed his celebrity crush!
TooFab: Did you have to train to play a quarterback in your new movie?
Oller: Yeah, because I'm really not very coordinated when it comes to football. That's why I've never played it. They had us go through two weeks of training before we started shooting and it helped a lot. I think we turned out to be pretty good football players but more-or-less the footage from the football scenes turned out incredible so I'm pretty pleased.
TooFab: Was it hard to pick up?
Oller: It was at first, but we had pretty good coaches that have been doing this for so long. They gave us so many tips so we kind of got with them and learned it pretty well.
TooFab: How does this new role on NBC compare to your role on TeenNick?
Oller: Walt [on "Gigantic] is in the industry, cool, hip and happening. [Tyler from "Field of Vision] is kind of your relatable prep jock kid that comes off at the beginning as your cliché jock but it turns out he's not like that at all!
TooFab: Who is your love interest on the movie?
Oller: My love interest? She's played by Erin Smith. There aren't too many scenes where you see them, it's her getting very upset that he's paying more attention to the new kids in school rather than her. She's a very sweet woman and we had a lot of fun playing love interests on set.
TooFab: Are you dating anyone at the moment?
Oller: I kind of am … Yeah, I am, I am.
TooFab: Is she in the Hollywood scene?
Oller: No, not at all. She's actually far from it. I'm actually in a long distance relationship, she lives in Canada!
TooFab: Do you have any tips for how to keep the magic in a long-distance relationship?
Oller: Well definitely put aside a budget for travelling [laughs] cause it kinda sucks not to see each other as much. I definitely have a lot of plane tickets set aside.
TooFab: Who is your Hollywood crush? Who would you love to date?
Oller: Oh my God, I know it's never going to happen but Natalie Portman!
TooFab: With her [upcoming] child and all?
Oller: Yeah, well if I could reverse time, I would, you know, she would be single. Yeah Natalie Portman, that is my crush …
TooFab: Why?
Oller: She's an amazing actress and she is gorgeous!
TooFab: And lastly, there is a lot of pressure for young actresses to look good, do you think actors face the same pressures?
Oller: Yeah, I think in L.A. in general, there's a lot of stereotypes where you have to have a perfect body and perfect image so I think actors get it a little bit. But actresses get it the worst which is a shame because it's really kind of upsetting.
TooFab: Any tips?
Oller: Yeah, don't listen to anybody! And if you look in the mirror and you're happy that's usually all that matters in life so you know and get that inner happiness going!
