'Glee' Star in Controversial New Photo Shoot

"Glee's" ditzy cheerleader Brittany is all bruised in a brand new photo shoot with Tyler Shields -- and it's got some online fans in an uproar!

Heather Morris sports a serious black eye and, in one photo, is seen tied up with an iron cord in the controversial spread posted on Shields' website. The inspiration behind the shoot: Even Barbie bruises.

"So wait… we’re glamorizing bruises/abuse now?" one commenter writes on Tyler's message board.

Another commenter writes, "There is absolutely nothing new or revelatory about pics like this ... They just perpetuate images of battered women. Can you please explain why you’re so stuck in the dark ages?"

Shields is sticking up for his work though, telling TooFab "It was something we both wanted to do, a bruised up Barbie. In no way were we promoting domestic violence. We both loved the idea and we both love the photos."

Calls to Morris' rep weren't immediately returned.

Controversy is nothing new to the young photographer -- he previously photographed Lindsay Lohan pointing a gun in her mouth.

What do you think of the photos? Sound off below -- and check out some behind-the-scenes video from the shoot.

People are talking about abuse so I would say good job. The more people talking about abuse in all it's forms the more aware we will be. I don't care how we get folks talking about as long as we are talking. If we don't talk we wont act when someone needs help.

I see nothing that glorifies abuse in this photo spread. They are merely photographs. Lighten up folks.

I see this as having more than one problem. First off, its glamorizing domestic abuse, not to mention the fact its called "even Barbie bruises"?... what is considered a Barbie? and do they think only a certain types get abused? enlighten me please.I'm a survivor and advocate for domestic violence, this director/photographer thinks its a joke, some impromptu photo shoot they wanted to do, no planning, obviously if they planned it and did their research they'd realize it would cause an uproar of disapprovement....unless thats was what they were looking for. I'm disgusted.

There are just pictures.
If you guys were good parents these pictures shouldn't even be in your childs view.
If you don't like them, don't look at them.
Simple as that.
Jeez. Some pictures are considered art, doesn't mean that they are promoting something.
Obviously some people don't have a taste for art.

In case the majority of the people who are complaining about this shoot haven't noticed, Tyler Shields isn't one who shys away from something just because it is not something that is comfortable to be spoken about in normal life. If you have looked at his profile, there are things like murder, suicide, sex, and alcohol that are a regular part of his photography. Also, this is not the first time he has photographed women with bruises... yes, it may not be the most comfortable thing to discuss but it is real life and it does happen. Art is about real life as much as it is about fantasy and he should have every right to do with his art what he wants. It does not have to please everyone (which is the best part about art.)

Making violence sexual seems to be the norm today. Stop confusing positive & empowering terms like sex, sexy, & sexual with negative & derogatory ones like sexist. You clearly do not comprehend the difference. And by YOU I refer to the photographer & the subject. WAKE UP.

I think this is offensive because there are people out there who go through this everyday and know they are trying to glamourize domestic abuse. Sickening.

IT'S THE CONCEPT OF ART.
YOU GUYS HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT ART IS.
IT IS NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY.
DUMBASSES.

All you people who say "how is this glamorizing domestic violence?" obviously are completely clueless. If it was just the black eye in a fashion spread, that would be one thing. Adding in the 50's costuming, the hands bound with an iron cord AND the black eye makes the intended message pretty clear. You have to be blind or totally stupid not to see this. Ms. Morris should be ashamed of herself. I'm glad I don'*****ch Glee anyway!
