I don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty impressed. See, this is one of the very first things that's ever come out of Demi Lovato's mouth that I happen to agree with, and it's not because girlfriend always does dumb things like serial date Wilmer Valderrama. That kind of business normally shoots her credibility right in the foot, if you ask me.
Nope, I also feel that Demi kind of jumped the shark in joining 'X Factor' a mere few months after leaving treatment, but it's really kind of encouraging to hear that she thinks so, too. There's nothing more attractive than a sane lady with a good sense of self-awareness.
Demi recently sat down with Cosmo on Campus to discuss her need for ongoing substance abuse and bulimia counseling, and she talked about the benefits and drawbacks of starting a big job so soon after she hit rock bottom:
"I dived into work really quickly and maybe that wasn't the best idea at the time, but the place I am in today is so much better than I could have ever imagined, so I'm really glad. ... I don't think I was ready when I started on 'The X Factor'. In an ideal situation, I would have maybe waited a year or more [after coming out of treatment]."
Later in the interview, she addressed relationships and boundaries of self-respect:
“Now I'm in a place where I can finally trust and love and be a better person for the man I am in a relationship with…Instead of being a clingy girlfriend or getting jealous. ... It is very unhealthy when girls devote all of their time to a guy and forget their friends and family. I did that. I was always looking for distractions because I was so afraid of being alone."
Super, right? It's really heartening to hear that Demi's growing and learning and evolving into the bright young woman that we all generally love and admire, and as long as she stays away from men like Fez and Trace Cyrus, then hey. We might start to take her even more seriously, and what fun that'll be for everyone involved!
