2014 Grammy Award Nominations: Snubs & Surprises!

1207_snubs
Music's biggest stars are on the road to Grammy gold!

The nominations for the 2014 Grammy Awards were announced on Friday night. LL Cool J revealed the nods during a live nominations concert, which featured performances by Taylor Swift, Robin Thicke with Earth, Wind & Fire, Katy PerryLorde, Keith Urban and Miguel

Jay Z leads all nominees for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards with nine nominations for “Magna Carta Holy Grail.” Justin TimberlakeMacklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrell Williams, and Kendrick Lamar each scored seven nods.

James Blake, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kasey Musgraves and Ed Sheeran were nominated for Best New Artist, leaving Lorde, an expected favorite in the category, on our list of Grammy snubs. But don’t feel bad for the teen superstar! She’s up for four awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Royals" and Best Pop Vocal Album for her studio debut, “Pure Heroine."

Another big surprise? Sarah Bareilles’ nod for Album of the Year!

The singer’s album, “The Blessed Unrest,” was released last summer after a three-year break. Even though the album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, we didn’t expect it to beat out heavy favorites like Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" and Bruno Mars' "Unorthodox Jukebox." Bareilles will compete against Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Taylor Swift, Daft Punk and Kendrick Lamar in the category.

Swift earned three other nominations, including Best Country Album, Best Country Song ("Begin Again") and Best Country Duo/Group Performance ("Highway Don't Care").

So, what about Miley Cyrus? "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball" were eligible this year, and she was shut out of the major song categories. “Bangerz” will be eligible for the 2015 Grammys.
