Goonies never say ... what?
Those of us who grew up in the '80s know how that classic quote should end, but for the stars of "The Goldbergs," filming a tribute episode to the flick proved difficult. Why? Because some of them have never seen the movie!
Set in "1980 something," the ABC sitcom was one of the breakout comedies of the 2013-2014 TV season, thanks to equal doses of nostalgia, heart and hilarious acting from stars like Wendi McLendon-Covey, Jeff Garlin and some up-and-coming young actors.
toofab's Brian Particelli recently sat down with Hayley Orrantia (Erica), Troy Gentile (Barry), Wendi and EP Doug Robinson, where they revealed how difficult it was to film the "Goonies" tribute episode ... by far one of the strongest of the first season.
"I grew up in the '90s and I had never even heard of 'The Goonies' before this episode," Orrantia admits. "I guess I'm a little too old to get it now."
"I've seen bits and pieces of it, it was never one of those films that came around to me that I watched," adds Gentile.
But their lack of knowledge about the film wasn't the only hurdle the cast and crew faced -- check out the video above to see what was so "controversial" about the episode for the writers and why it took so long to shoot. Plus, is there another tribute in store for Season Two?
The stars also opened up about their sometimes-outrageous costumes -- including all of "Beverly's" amazing sweaters -- and whether they've met their characters' real-life inspirations.
"We've met them but we don't rely on them for anything. We rely on Adam [Goldberg] and the writers," says Wendi. "I have gotten the seal of approval from the real Beverly, but I wasn't going to play her any different. I have met the real Barry and Troy has not, but he's playing him exactly the way he is!"
