The first look at the highly anticipated Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, is here. On November 20, exactly one year from the film's release, Lionsgate dropped the first trailer for the movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins' 2025 novel, which stars Joseph Zada as a young Haymitch Abernathy. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping "revisits the world of Panem and follows young Haymitch Abernathy (Zada) twenty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell," per Lionsgate. The teaser reveals jaw-dropping action shots and heartbreaking footage of the Hunger Games, while also giving the first look at Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, and Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove. The footage also features a voiceover from Woody Harrelson, who played Haymitch in the original Hunger Games films. Sunrise on the Reaping -- which is directed by Francis Lawrence -- also stars Kieran Culkin, Maya Hawke, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and more. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters November 20, 2026.
